Long before it reached a dupatta, the Baluchari weave was born on the banks of the Bhagirathi in Bengal, in a small settlement called Baluchar, where weavers first learned to turn silk thread into storytelling. When floods eventually carried the craft to Bishnupur, the artisans carried their stories with it — scenes from the Mahabharata, gods mid-conversation, court processions frozen mid-stride, all woven into the border. That's still how ours are made. We work the motifs into pure silk and cotton-silk blends by hand, thread by thread, the same patient way it's always been done, right down to tassels and pompoms we make ourselves rather than buy in. Wear one, and you're carrying a small piece of a river town's oldest stories.
