Motherhood: All love begins and ends there: Happy Mothers Day!

by Ratnabali Mitra 05 May 2021

Every mother is blessed as she gives birth to a generation. She devotes her life to keep her family glued together.  For all of us, our mothers are our first best teacher, influencer and nurturer and then they become our longest-serving best friends. Well at least to most of us!

To make our mothers feel special, each year, on May 9, we celebrate Mother's Day.  A day which traditionally involves showering gifts, flowers and cards on mothers, celebrating the influence on motherhood on society. Traditionally Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May with its roots in the United States. Today, this day is a worldwide phenomenon.

Today, I celebrate as a mother myself, and I am not young anymore. I must have visited many places on earth but can shamelessly vouch for the fact that my mothers' home is where I will always return. That's my umbilical chord.

How can you make Mother's Day special during a very difficult pandemic?

Celebrating the one person who has raised you almost singlehandedly and made your life beautiful with her loving presence is so much more important during such difficult times as we are trapped in now!

How do you pull it off?  Here are a few innovative ideas to that you could try to bring cheer to that one lad

  1. Plan a video chat session- a thing you would have always planned to do but never got time to.

This year, turn this classic Mother's Day gift into a mother-daughter activity that she'll cherish for years to come. If you are not staying in the same city or country, just use the modern day make-life-easy technologies like whatsapp video chat or Facetime to get into a long video call session with your mother. Nothing is more therapeutic than a no-holds-barred chat with your mother over cups of tea and a collage of memories. If your mother is tech challenged ( believe me! mine is) just pick up the good old phone and call her. She just wants to hear your voice.

  1. Order her some breakfast through Swiggy.

Be the change agent in her life by taking some morning chores off her shoulders. ( virtually of course!) . Why not surprise her with her brunch favourites? She does deserve a break during an all-too-difficult pandemic induced lockdown with no additional help. Now is the time to make up for those days when she has churned out your favourite delicacies without you having to ask for it.

  1. Order a book she loves to read.

If your mother is a reader , you can make her day special by ordering some nice reads for her. This is, perhaps, the best way to ensure that she can put up her feet and have a relaxing day. If not, you could order her some flowers to cheer up her day along with her favourite sweets. Thank God! for the emergence of the food- delivery start-ups. They have been a life saver for all those of us staying apart from our mothers and trying to ascertain how best to have a "Happy Mother's Day" from a Safe distance!

So what are you planning to do this Mother's Day?

Why not bring a smile in her face with some beautiful handmade gifts?  here.
